On May 2-4, 2023, we invite you to join us at the Chinese Heritage Church Ministers Collective in Houston, TX. This is a gathering for those called to serve and engage the Chinese heritage church, particularly in the English speaking ministries. This gathering is a collection of those serving and we pray that participants would be encouraged not so much by content, but more so by connection with others serving in Chinese heritage churches.

Opening Session
Pastor Enoch currently serves at Boston Chinese Evangelical Church (BCEC) in both their inner city and suburban campuses. He is married to Karen, and they have 3 sons at home and 1 daughter who has passed on. They have a dog named Colby. Enoch received his education from UCLA and Talbot School of Theology in California, where both he and Karen grew up. He is the author of In Reverence and Awe, a practical worship leading resource. Enoch also serves on the Executive Team of the Chinese Heritage Church Collaborative, the organizing group of this event.

David Tang began serving in Dallas Chinese Bible Church since 2005 and currently serves as the English Ministry Pastor. He was born in Taiwan, but spent his formative years in Austin, TX. He is a proud Longhorn, but his dreams of seeing the UT Tower lit orange for football continues to be dashed each year. David is married to Jennifer, and they have 3 children – Melody, Valerie, and Paxon (David & Jennifer’s MVP)!
Pastor Steven Siu has been serving as the senior pastor of Chinese Evangelical Church of San Diego since 2004. He is a second generation Chinese American who was born and raised in Oakland. He has been blessed to have participated in good Chinese heritage churches over the years, and he has heart to see second and third generation Chinese Americans pastors thrive in Chinese heritage churches.
When You Hit the Wall, Look for the Door

Serving the Lord is truly a joy and obeying His calling is one of our deepest privileges. However, in the midst of ministry, sometimes there will be seasons when we feel drained, discouraged, or confused, but it’s not because of disobedience, laziness, or a distracted heart on our part. Stress and anxiety can cause us to doubt whether we are even in the right place or position! What do we do then? More importantly, what does God desire to teach us during those “intense” times?
Reverend Barry Gin was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and was formerly a mechanical engineer before going into ministry. It was during his college days at MIT that Barry felt the desire to serve the Lord full-time as a pastor instead of as an engineer. Because he also felt that it was beneficial to spend a few years getting real-world experience, he worked as a mechanical engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, CA after receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He later enrolled into seminary and received his Master of Theology (ThM) from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1996. While attending seminary, he started the English ministry at Plano Chinese Alliance Church and later served full-time as their English Pastor. He began serving as the English Adult Pastor at Living Water Evangelical Church in January of 2013. He and his wife Christine have been married since 2003. They have two daughters, Xara and Keoni. Besides serving the church and being with his family, he enjoys music, all kinds of sports (especially golf and volleyball), playing with his Apple computers, and using coupons galore.
Pastor Gaylord Tsuei joined the Pastoral Staff of Austin Chinese Church in May of 1998 as the English Pastor. In 2021, his role was adjusted and he now serves as the English and Caring Pastor of ACC. Gaylord graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.A. in Christian Missions (1988), and completed his Master of Divinity at Central Baptist Theological Seminary (1996). Previous to moving to Texas, he served at the Twin City Chinese Christian Church near Roseville, MN from 1989-1998 as the Youth Director and eventually transitioned to being their English Pastor. “PG” is married to Tina, and they have two children, Charis and Silas. Gaylord and Tina have a special burden for the 2nd and 3rd generation Chinese-Americans. They desire to see God use them to encourage others to grow in their walk with Christ and to serve God faithfully.
Serving a Majority as a Minority

How does a Chinese pastor end up leading a white church? How does a biracial (but culturally white) pastor end up in a Chinese church? Join us as we explore opposite, but similar stories and see God’s gracious and surprising work in his church.
Reverend Rocky Chan is the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of Endicott, NY. My entire church experience up to the quarantine had been the Chinese church. I was raised in a Chinese church. I pastored in two Chinese churches for a combined twenty-one years. In 2021, I was invited to pastor a church where my wife Minna and I were the only Chinese people. Interestingly, in some ways it was a cultural transition but in other ways it was not. Find me and we can chat about it.
Justin Young serves as the Pastor of English and Youth Ministries at the Chinese Community Church of Indianapolis. He graduated with a BA from Wheaton College in Biblical and Theological Studies and an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He and his wife have three children. His current interests include technology, green living, and essentialism.
Overcoming Misconceptions
Jennifer Ting & Sandy Moy Liu
Misconceptions work their way into how we do ministry and can distract us from how God has called us. Join us as we explore some misconceptions in ministry and how we can help one another recognize and overcome these areas.
Pastor Jennifer Ting has been serving youth in Chinese heritage churches for over 17 years. She was led to Christ by a youth when she was in 8th grade and has a heart for seeing students become men and women who love Him, serve Him, and bring the gospel to the rest of the world. She lives in greater Boston with her husband, Nate, and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Ministry to Emerging Generations from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Since 2020, Pastor Sandy has served on the staff of Rutgers Community Christian Church in Somerset, NJ, co-pastoring the English congregation and pivoting the youth ministry team. Formerly, she led the youth ministry from 1989-2016 at Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston in Lexington, MA, and was ordained in 1998. Once-retired to focus on mentoring and missions, she was called back into the pastoral saddle once more. As a fourth-generation New Yorker, Sandy is an ABC with urban roots. She is a graduate of Nyack College (B.S. in Christian Education) and Westminster Theological Seminary (M.A.R. in Theology). She has been an active partner with Ambassadors For Christ (AFC) for the Family Conferences and Chinese Mission Conventions (CMC) for decades, and is still serving with the CMC Executive Steering Team. Her passions include loving her family, building the Kingdom, mentoring students, and empowering the Chinese church and parents in their ministry & influence upon the young. She and her husband Peirung are exceedingly thankful for their adult sons, Ted and Spencer.
Closing Session
Pastor David Hsu is the Senior Pastor at West Houston Chinese Church (WHCC). He was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the US at age 14 after his father passed away. He went to Tufts University and worked as a chip designer before going to seminary. After seminary he joined WHCC serving in the youth and English ministry. He became senior pastor in 2001 and has served at W for 30 years. He received both his Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Dallas Seminary. Pastor David has a heart for Bible exposition, spiritual formation, global missions and the communication and legacy between the generations. Pastor David and his wife Cheryl have two adult children. For leisure Pastor David enjoys reading, following sports and running.
