Youth Director

Position description: We are seeking a full-time (or part-time) Youth Director/Pastor for the Youth Group of the Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland, OR. We are a body of Christians (singles, couples, and families) who believe and follow Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We seek to be a community that is God-centered, Gospel-driven, unity-bonded, grace-filled, and worship-animated. Our vision is to build the kingdom of God in Asian-American communities, grounded in the promises of the Gospel. The Youth Group consists of both middle school and high school students. They are mostly children of our two congregations – English and Mandarin speaking.

Qualifications: A candidate is a servant-leader who loves the Lord and has a passion to disciple Christian youth. The candidate should be fluent in English and has at least a college degree. Ideally, the candidate has a Master degree focused on youth ministry (or equivalent), has knowledge and experience working with Asian/Asian-Americans and/or multi-ethnics people groups, and has at least 2 years of experience in any kind of ministry (cross-cultural ministry preferred).  We will consider the current M. Div. students at a part-time base. Being bilingual (English and Mandarin) is an extra plus.

Responsibilities and Expectations: Responsible for the spiritual leadership and pastoral care of the youth congregation (grades 6 to 12); preach and teach the Word of God faithfully by delivering Biblically-based and Spirit-filled messages that are applicable and challenging to the youth in accordance with CEC’s Statement of Faith; develop and train youth leaders; provide leadership and actively participate in prayer, education, discipleship and evangelism for the spiritual life and growth of youths; responsible for the development of mentoring (discipleship) programs for youth; oversee/plan youth ministries and activities within the broader church context; work with children ministry director on programs that benefits both youth and children; creatively and collaboratively work with the English and Chinese-speaking pastors and congregation.
